Taste: Rich, Full Bodied
The Wine Advocate 87 pts - Robert Parker From a 4.8 parcel of vines planted in pure limestone soils, the medium ruby-hued 2006 Pinot Noir Selleck Vineyard exhibits notes of tomato skins, red cherries, and pomegranates, medium body, and more staying power and length than any of the previous cuvees. Nevertheless, it is a relatively lightweight effort for Calera. It should be consumed over the next 5-6 years.
Wine Spectator 86 pts - James Laube Supple and fleshy up front, with black cherry, plum and a dash of cumin. Balanced and easy-drinking, with sour cherry and anise, but ends a bit clipped. Drink now through 2012.
Wine Enthusiast 90 pts - Steve Heimoff Not quite up there with the '05, but certainly better than the '04, this wine shows softly ripe flavors of cherries, raspberries and red currants, with complexities of mocha, vanilla, bacon, pepper and sandalwood. Beautiful now and for the next 3?5 years.
Description: The deep, garnet, ruby color hints towards perfectly intertwined, seamless, deep, cool aromas of plum, mineral and currant. This 2006 Selleck, while still such a baby, aching for cellar time, is supple, silky, juicy, graceful and lithe on the palate. It expresses deep low notes of mineral, forest, red plum and black cherry. This wine expresses the concentration and impeccable balance indicative of a long and prosperous future.
