It is difficult to tell where the variety ends and the vineyard begins with our 2006 Alcance Cabernet Sauvignon. It says Alcance in one breath and Cabernet Sauvignon in the next. The colour is deep; the flavours are ripe and redolent of black fruit, mocha, cherries and plums. The tannins are rich, round and pleasing.
Our Alcance wines are single-site bottlings from the best of our estate vineyards. The grapes for the 2006 Alcance Cabernet Sauvignon were grown in the rockiest part of our El Maitén Vineyard in Maule. This small block is a rolling hillside with alluvial, red soils. El Maitén is a softly tilted swathe set against the black and white backdrop of the Andes to the east and the Coastal Range to the west. Daily, the cool breezes flow up from the Pacific in the morning and down off the mountains in the afternoon. |
