The Wine Advocate 95 pts - Jay Miller The 2006 Malleolus de Valderramiro is a less dense color than the 2007. It exhibits a fragrant nose of Asian spices, incense, lavender, balsamic, and black fruits. On the palate it is less rich than the 2007 but, make no mistake; this is a very serious offering. It will evolve for another 5-7 years and drink well through 2031.
Wine Spectator 93 pts - Thomas Matthews This expressive red delivers cherry, cinnamon, orange peel, fig pudding and smoke flavors, supported by full yet supple tannins and bright acidity. Floral and spice notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2016. 1,000 cases made.
Wine Enthusiast 97 pts - Michael Schachner Beautifully composed, with power and just as much precision and pizzazz. The nose offers lightly baked berry fruit notes, leather and spice, while the palate is loaded with tobacco, exotic spices and the finest natural berry flavors Spain has to offer. Smooth, elegant, finessed and potent, with integrated tannins and bold acidity that will keep it going for at least a decade. Drink from 2012 through 2018.
Description: The vineyards are between 80 and 85 years old. The malo-lactic fermentation is done in new American oak barrels, followed by 18 months aging in French oak barrels.
