Medium BodiedWine Spectator 90 pts - Thomas MatthewsStill firm, this red offers black cherry, mineral, licorice and tobacco flavors over solid tannins that dissolve on the finish, leaving floral and spicy notes. Foursquare and balanced. Drink now through 2011.
Wine Enthusiast 92 pts - Michael SchachnerMight this be the best wine Marques de Caceres has produced? The vintage is one of Spain's greatest, and gran reserva is supposed to be Rioja in its loftiest form. So indulge in this beauty's rock-solid structure, lovely violet and raspberry aromas, and long, stout finish. Best from 2012?2018.
Description:Intense, dark cherry-red color. Complex bouquet that reveals a splendid balance of mature fruit and a delicate touch of spice (vanilla, refined leather) from the French oak. Powerful in the mouth with sensations of fleshy, crystallized fruit that highlight a pleasant fullness in which the slightly toasted notes from the wood are perfectly integrated. A very elegant wine that promises to develop splendidly in bottle.
Serving suggestions: An ideal wine to accompany game dishes in sauce or ragout, lamb or beef with spices (roast, stewed or grilled), and mature or blue cheese.
