The Wine Advocate 89 pts - Robert Parker The 2006 Back 40, nearly all Cabernet Sauvignon, reveals a slight austerity, along with deep, full-bodied flavors, and notes of black currants, espresso roast, tobacco leaf, and a touch of mint. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, and closed, it needs several years of bottle age to flesh out. Both of these wines may have been in a closed stage due to recent bottling. Time will tell.
Wine Spectator 88 pts - James Laube Tightly wound, firm and austere, yet complex, showing a mix of mineral, dried currant and dark berry, hints of flowers and spice and ending with chewy but agreeable tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2010 through 2016. 944 cases made.
Description: Vibrant aromas of boysenberry, cassis, graham cracker and dried herbs blend with rich layers of dried red and black fruit and sweet, toasted oak elements on the palate. A full-bodied mid-palate with generous tannins, excellent length, vitality and texture set apart this expansive wine of extraordinary elegance.
