Description

Les Poisets offers an explosive nose of cassis fruit with intense flavors dark-berry fruit, espresso and spice.  For those who prefer a pure, modern style of winemaking; wines surfeit with dense black fruits with ambitions to last 10 to 15 years, then Arnoux is a name to be reckoned with.  Robert Arnoux is now universally acknowledged as a superstar estate.

In the words of Clive Coates, Pascal Lachaux "has now been producing splendid quality for a decade."  Critics are unanimous in their praise for 2002 red Burgundies, easily the finest vintage since 1990 and widely regarded as a near-perfect vintage for Burgundy's finest winemakers to showcase their talents.

Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Vosne-Romanee is a wine-producing village and in the Cte de Nuits area of the Cte-d'Or, Burgundy which produces much of the region's best red wines, all made entirely from the Pinot Noir grape.

Grape varieties:
Pinot Noir

The vineyard:
Arnoux is a name entrenched in the fragrant vines of Vosne-Romane, with six generations practicing viticulture since 1858. The hereditary line actually stems from Florence Arnoux whose father Robert owned almost a dozen holdings. Her husband, Pascal Lachaux, eventually took charge of the domaine with the auspicious 1990 vintage.  The domaine has the unique advantage of having uniformly old vines in all of its parcels, making for a consistency of style.  The domaine cultivates the vines without chemicals, although not certified organic.

Geology:
The Arnoux holdings are focused around the village of Vosne-Romane, including Nuits-St.-Georges (1.95ha), amoung many.

Winemaking:
Arnouxs Nuits-St-Georges Les Poisets, is made from old vines in a mid-slope vineyard that gives tiny yields, due to consistent millerandage.  Pascal Lachaux usually employs a short pre-fermentation maceration and a longer cuvaison which he lovingly watches over, to use his expression.   The entire crop is destemmed and undergoes a prefermentation maceration to leech out tannins and colour.

Maturing:
Fermentation is made using natural yeasts with an emphasis on new oak (30% for the Villages) where the wines are aged for 18 months.
